By Monday 14 November Educational Directorates must complete preparatory procedures to begin supplemental tutoring, by sending to regional primary and secondary school directorates the following documents:
1. The report of the directorate for the operation of School Centres of Compensatory Education or SKAE and for classes in each centre
2. The recommendation of the Coordination Group for Compensatory Education Structures – SODAE – in the exceptional cases that these exist. In the recommendation for the operation of School Centres for Compensatory Education, or SKAE, the Directors of
Secondary School Education can propose supervisors of SKAE, in accord with Paragraph 13 of Ministerial Decision 169770/Δ2/12-10-2016 Government Gazette Β΄
Directors can also propose the indicative number of teachers in each subject required for the operation of the local SKAE, and in accord with the distribution of SKAE teachers in each Regional Educational Directorate, as transmitted with a document with protocol number 178041/Δ2/25-10-2016.
Once regional primary and secondary school directorates have received recommendations from local Secondary School Directorates, the following procedures are applied.
In case there are no applications to the Central Committee for Monitoring, Overseeing and Coordinating the Act, or KEPES, they proceed with finalizing the planning of Supplemental Teaching by Friday, 18 November, 2016. SKAE then are finalised by directorates of Secondary Education, by subject as are SKAE supervisors, the number of classes in each SKAE and the number of teachers by subject, who will teach the classes.
The Secondary School Directorates are informed, the related decisions are sent by electronic file to the Directorate of Curriculums and Organisation of secondary school education, noting in each Directorate of Secondary Education the SKAE that will operate and the number of teachers by subject, who will teach.
In cases of applications to KEPES for permission to operate a SKAE at one school or approval of small classes with 3-4 students, they send their recommendations electronically to the Directorate of Studies, Curriculums and Organisation, Section A, by Tuesday, 15 November, 2016.
The purpose of supplemental teaching is the re-induction of students in the learning process, improved performance to complete mandatory education, reducing dropouts and an increase in high school enrolment.
According to Ministerial Decision 169770/Δ2/12.10.2016 (Government Gazette Β ́ 3406), teachers of Modern Greek language and literature, ancient Greek language and literature, mathematics, physics, chemistry and English who will teach at SKAE, will be hired with a private law contract of limited duration, with a salary equal to that of part-time and hourly work substitutes.
